Designers are preparing to unveil their Spring/Summer 2012 collections as the much-awaited Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week gets underway. Scheduled from 8 September to 15 September 2011, the fashion week will be showcasing over 90 top designers at Damrosch Park in Lincoln Center. The venue will play host to the who’s-who of the fashion world. But providing an aside to the high-profile runway shows are a host of parties and special events to be held throughout Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
1. Event: Opening of Intermix’s latest New York City outlet
Where: 812 Washington Street, at Gansevoort Street
When: Thursday, September 8, from 6:30pm to 9:30pm
First in line is the gala opening of Intermix’s newest outlet in New York City. On 8 September, Intermix’s boutique in New York’s Meatpacking District will hold a glittering launch party filled to the brim with fashion and cocktails. Look out for the limited edition Fashion’s Night Out collection and sip on flavorsome cocktails by the likes of Bols Genever, STK, Griffin and The Darby. Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe will also be making an appearance.
2. Event: Collaborative event organized by Henri Bendel, Swarovski Elements and Hester Street Fair
Where: Henri Bendel store on 712 Fifth Avenue, at 56th Street
When: Thursday, September 8, from 3pm to 11pm
Also scheduled for 8 September is an interactive event featuring over 50 artists, chefs and designers at department store Henri Bendel. Henri Bendel is collaborating with Swarovski Elements and the Hester Street Fair for this event. Watch out for a tattoo parlor, crystal makeovers by Frederic Fekkai and interactive booths where designers create custom pieces at the venue itself. Jade Jagger is among the celebrities to be attending the event.
3. Event: Photo booth session by Mr. Newton
Where: Van Cleef & Arpels’ store on 744 Fifth Avenue, near 58th Street
When: Thursday, September 8, from 6pm to 9pm
Head to Van Cleef & Arpels’ flagship boutique outlet in New York on 8 September for a special treat. Ace street-style photographer Mr. Newton will be conducting special styled shoots on location. Visitors will get to try on the luxury brand’s watches and jewelry for the shoot. Photos will later be highlighted on Facebook and on Mr. Newton’s blog.
4. Event: Faces of Fashion
Where: Manhattan Center Grand Ballroom, 311 West 34th Street, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues
When: Friday, September 9, from 7pm to midnight
On 9 September, the Manhattan Center Grand Ballroom will play host to the 16th edition of “Faces of Fashion”. The event, which is presented by Gen Art will feature 11 upcoming designers who will present ready-to-wear and accessory lines. A pre-event cocktail reception and an after-party at popular nightclub 404 are on the menu. Earlier editions of this event have proved stepping stones for designers like Phillip Lim and Zac Posen.
Indeed, there is much to look forward to as the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week gets underway. Everyone from industry insiders and VIPs to fashion enthusiasts will be looking to get passes to the fashion week. These other ancillary events will also enjoy tremendous footfall.
