Top Designers Design Swan Chairs To Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month approaches, we will be witnessing a range of high-end products dedicated to the cause. SUITE New York has already prepared its offering – The Pink Swan Project. SUITE New York roped in several well-known designers to recreate the iconic Fritz Hansen Swan Chairs. Previously, Arne Jacobsen had prepared a special take on the chairs for the Breast Cancer Foundation.

The 18 designers involved in The Pink Swan Project include Margherita Maccapani Missoni, Holly Fulton, Kelly Hoppen and Karim Rashid. The designer chairs may not all be pink, but they will feature feminine tones as a reminder of the cause.

Margherita Maccapani Missoni was inspired by the words “pink swan”. Her offering for The Pink Swan Project is an elegant white chair that features additional flourishes like feathers. Does it look like a swan? Missoni herself admits that it is “a little conceptual”.

Then there is Holly Fulton for Swarovski. Fulton’s swan chair is elegant and the backrest features multi-colored Swarovski crystals. Fulton revealed that she was struck by the “combination of simple elegance and modernity” embodied by the swan chair.

Kelly Hoppen’s deep red chair with shimmering, metallic hangings smacks of high-end luxury. Hoppen wanted to create a chair that gave the impression of fluidity and constant motion, like a swan. But she also wanted to bring in an element of fantasy. She definitely succeeded.

Designer Karim Rashid brough in a young, fun feel to Fritz Hansen’s swan chair. Rashid revealed that he wanted to express the “vitality and courage” of those diagnosed with breast cancer.

All the swan chairs associated with The Pink Swan Project will be on display at SUITE New York’s Park Avenue showroom, as well as at Madison Avenue’s Gagosian Shop. The chairs will be autioned online at CharityBuzz.com.
