Surf Up with Thom Browne $3,900 Wetsuit

Are you looking for a wetsuit that stands out? Thom Browne has released his 2018 Spring/summer collection. The fashion designer has also presented a new look on the classic neoprene scuba suit.  The usual boring waterproof gear has a major makeover. The latest wetsuits design is unique and fit for a gentleman surfer.

Fashion designer Thom Browne has introduced the Trompe L’Oeil Technical Wetsuit. The wetsuit for men was designed to look like traditional menswear. The coat and tie, which used to be a uniform symbolizing 9 to 5 work have been incorporated into the wetsuit. Brown’s latest hand-made suit is meant to stick out.  If you are comfortable with others watching you hit the wave in whatever suit you had on then the wetsuit should be perfect for you.

The high-end fashion designer wetsuit was recently presented on the runway. But, unlike other novelty creation that walks the runway and never seen again. These wetsuits are available online and they are worth nearly four grand. That’s right! You can buy them online for a whopping $3,900. The wetsuit at close look has stitches that show an illusion that mimic the same lines of traditional trousers, jacket, top collar, tie, and lapels with fitting same as the classic wetsuit. And while the TB’s name and label made these suits fashionable, it’s the craftsmanship of the Orange County’s Shane Jones that made them authentic and expensive. In case you didn’t know, Jones is the founder of Jonesea Wetsuits, a legend in the surfing industry. Jones has made over 7,000 handcrafted wetsuits. The self-taught tailor collaborated with Thom Brown to create the iconic wetsuits.

Thom Browne is an award-winning fashion designer. He has introduced the fully working wetsuit that cost only $4,000. Browne began his career designing men’s custom-made clothing and expanded his operation to ready-to-wear clothing in 2004. The style of Brown is rooted in American sensibility and inspired by icons of the yesteryears (the late 1950s and early 1960s). Brown was named the 2006 Menswear Designer of the Year by the council of fashion designers of America. He was also honored for his work in the Cooper-Hewitt’s 2006 National Design Triennial of America, CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year Award in 2006, 2013 and 2016, the GQ Designer of the Year in 2008.

Aside from the numerous awards, museums around the world including the Fashion Museum in Bath and Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum has also recognized his traditionally hand-made suits as they have helped paradigm the men’s fashion.

The Trompe L’Oeil Technical wetsuit shown on the SS17 Runway show are available at Thom Browne stores in Hongkong, Seoul, Tokyo, New York, as well as at Luxury designer specialty stores across the globe, such as Dover Street in London, Bergdorf Goodman, Colette and Le Bon Marche in Paris, Barneys in New York, Selfridges in London, and United Arrows in Tokyo.
