The Modern Townhouse Created on East Meets West Concept will Cost You $35 Million

Kate Shin and her company WEmi:t, LLC has just completed a New York City renovation by turning a 19th century townhouse into a luxury lifestyle mansion at 170 East 80th Street. Kate has priced the renovated, rather transformed property at $35 million. She and her exclusive broker Paula Del Nunzio of Brown Harris Stevens are confident of getting a buyer at the high asking price as it is one of a kind town house in New York. Del Nunzio calls it the Modern Townhouse as all the elements have been incorporated in the design with a modern interpretation.
The broker highlights the point that there is no other house in New York that is similar to the Modern Townhouse. Shin has consciously integrated elements from East and West and has collaborated with Toshiko Mori Architect for the purpose. The design process took more than a year and was guided by the principles of Feng Shui. Natural elements like light, air, and water were brought into the home to create serene and open space for contemporary living. A 22-foot high and 20-foot wide waterfall was incorporated in the design. The waterfall cascades into a reflecting pool that is surrounded by a sculpture garden.

Shin is very focused on the West-Meets-East philosophy. The way she has named her company also represents the same philosophy. She explains that the waterfall concept comes from Eastern influences and the water-pressure technology to manage the waterfall is more of a Western influence. To incorporate the green in the house a grassy terrace has been created outside the master bedroom. The house also boasts of a rooftop garden with a LiveRite auto-irrigation system. The house has 40 custom-made windows and skylights to ensure natural illumination. The mansion has an art gallery, a2,300-square-foot spa-lounge with a Jacuzzi, sauna, massage room, and gym, as well as a 1,000-bottle wine cellar with custom lighting.
