Glass Superyacht is an Innovative Design of a Concept Yacht by Lujac Desautel

Lujac Desautel, one of the finalists for “Young Designer of The Year” award at the 2014 ShowBoats Design Awards has come up with an innovative design of a concept yacht. This design competition brings together the best super yacht designs from students and trainee designers. Lujac’s design is called the Glass Superyacht and from a distance it looks like a floating Japanese lamp. By using transparent material he has maximized the views available from most of the areas of the yacht. He has not followed the standard yacht design trends or techniques. Instead he seems to have stacked one floor on top of the other like Lego blocks.

The design of the superyacht is unusual to say the least. The floors are arranged on top of each other in such a way that all the living rooms provide views for guests and crew. Since the body of the living floors is made of glass it glows in the light reflected by water. You would get a sense of grandeur the moment you approach this yacht because of the acropolis like stairs. The sky atrium gives you a clear view of the sky above. The second level of the yacht provides unparalleled 360-degree view of the ocean. The section on the left is the living room and the section on the right is the dining room and cocktail lounge. The central area features outdoor garden where you can enjoy your cocktails over the calm sea.

360 degree views from the yacht

The design of Glass Superyacht has brought nature closer to architecture. Its hull has also been designed in a way that it does not restrict the outdoor space. The aft deck lowers itself to the water for easy access to tenders and water sports. It is a relatively large space and can also be used as a private amphitheater. Lujac Desautel works with Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) as an intern. He has co-founded Craft & Contour and also edits The Yacht Collective and contributes designs for it. If you are a yacht enthusiast you are sure to hear more of him in the future as he establishes himself as an innovative designer in the yacht making industry.
