The weight of any trekking gear is a very important factor as you have to haul it around through the trek. You hate it if you have to carry any unnecessary weight around even if the heavy piece of equipment is supposed to provide some comfort during the trek. But then the ultra light category equipment very often cut so many corners that they ultimately do not serve the purpose for which they are made. Sea to Summit has recently released an ultra light Specialist tent which seems to be a spacious tent and still ridiculously light.
From what you can see in the photographs it is evident that the Specialist tent will dominate the ultra light segment of tents for some time to come. The tent weighs in at just 625 grams for Solo and barely 846 grams for the Duo. And mind it! The weight is inclusive of the ultra light aluminum 7075 poles. If you intend to use your trekking poles instead you can shave off 200 grams from the tent pack. The material used for the tent is such that it wraps up to a size almost as small as a typical Nalgene bottle.
Even in the photographs you can notice the attention to detail in the design of the tent. The floors aren’t a straight angle, but come up a bit and then go in thereby providing more usable space for the person sleeping in the tent. The Duo has two separate entrances and both the entrance have vestibules where you can store your gear in bad weather. There are storage pockets for the small items like a flash light. The commercial production and distribution will start in March so you may be able to use it for your trek next summer.
