The car auctions are always exciting. The passionate car lovers very often, go after classic beauties vigorously. Many classic cars will go under the hammer at the RM Auctions’ sale at Villa d’Este, Lake Como on May 21. The highlight of the collection of cars on offer will be a 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante Coupé. This car bearing chassis number 57551 one of the only 40 57S type vehicles ever built. Out of those 40 only 17 were Atalante Coupés. The sporting beauty is no simple luxury car but a rare piece and is sure to attract a lot of attention and interest during the sale.
The 57S Atalante Coupé offers 200 horse power and an eight cylinder dry-sump engine. The Type 57 was an entirely new design for Bugatti and was developed from scratch. The 40 cars were produced between 1934 and 1940. It is a very exclusive design that was appreciated the world over. The sporty vehicle with the low slung design has won many awards, the most important being the Best of Show at the 1976 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The car which will be seen at the sales has been fully restored. It is fully functional and is, in fact, the best performing of all Bugatti road cars available for sales for car lovers. The vintage car has the most attractive design and its restored condition makes it a rare and prized possession for any car lover. The pre sale estimates are accordingly on the higher side at $6.2 million. It sounds high but it is a conservative estimate as in 2010 a 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic changed hands for an undisclosed sum thought to be close to $30 million. It was the most expensive classic car and it is natural to have high expectations from a sibling which is similar in many ways.
