If artifacts from Chinese Ming Dynasty interest you, here is an epic piece that will be offered at the Duke’s AuctionHouse of Dorchester, UK on this Friday i.e. 28th July. Hans Langhard and Mr. Lee of Hollywood Street are known to have a close relationship with the Chinese government and hence they have been signed up to fetch antiques exported from the East and then marketed to the West. The horse is here is one of the 6 funerary sculptures that were procured from Hong Kong by Mr. Langhard. The horse along with a warrior antique forms a part of the permanent collection at a famous museum today.
The horse is made of huge stone blocks which are larger than life and it is usually coupled with a warrior standing in full armour, his hands closed before his body and a life-size standing horse, saddled and bridled. Both of these antiques have rich history attached to them and together they signified the way that would lead to the tombs of a noble Chinese man of high rank. It is believe that these, stylistically and geographically, relate to mausoleum of Zhu Yuan Zhang in the capital Nanjing.
The closed design of the warrior ho stares wide eyed into the distance and the blocky design of the horse are known to be peculiar to the style of monumental stone sculptures, the time of which dates back to the era of the Ming emperor.
