The menu offered about forty options to serve the Edwardian society such as salmon mayonnaise, grilled mutton chops, chicken a la Maryland, consommé fermier, eggs Argenteuil, corned ox tongue, jacket potatoes and more. The menu was placed on the table of first class passenger, a prominent banker from San Francisco, Dr Washington Dodge, with his wife and son. Mrs. Doge slipped the menu into her bag. Mrs. Dodge and her son survived the mishap along with the menu which has been preserved by the family ever since.
The relic gives a fascinating picture of culinary life of the high-end passengers of the vessel. In an interview, Mrs. Dodge gave an account of last hours in the ship which she would never forget the awful scene and loss of more than 1,500 lives that had been given assurance constantly that there was no danger. Now the menu is making move towards auction block. The presale estimation is in between $95,000 to $154,000.
