Rosie O’Donnell Buys an $8 Million Duplex in Downtown New York

It has become fashionable amongst celebrities to go green. Stars like Alec Baldwin and Leonardo Di Caprio at the forefront of the movement and according to reports former talk show host Rosie O’Donnell has also joined their ranks by purchasing a 4-bedroom, 3-bath duplex in a pre war reuse building that boasts of a Green Roof and energy saving innovations. Reportedly, the unit has cost her $8 million. The building is located at 130 W 12th Street. The building originally housed the St. Vincent’s Hospital. After the hospital shut down Beth Rudin DeWoody decided to redevelop the building as a residential complex.

Rosie O’Donnell Downtown New York: Showcases Historic Features

Cook & Fox Architects were commissioned to redesign and renovate the building. They have done well to retain the charm of the pre war building and have successfully preserved some of the building’s historic features. The original design detail of the structure has been left more or less intact but the floor plans have been relayed innovatively to create living spaces that convey the feeling of comfort and luxury. Some of the amenities have been customized and others make it a superior residential address. The renovated building was marketed by Stribling and had attracted the interest of the elite looking for housing in downtown New York. Stars like Cameron Diaz and Blake Lively are reported to have looked at the unit that Rosie finally bought.

Building Aiming for Green Certification

Andrew Rosen who is considered a theory bigwig has bought a penthouse in the building for over $12.5 million. The pre war building in its transformed avatar features 42 units and they were sold out in just eight months despite the real estate market not being in the best of health. Rosie’s duplex apartment in the building features four bedrooms and outdoor space in the form of a spacious terrace. The building is equipped with filtered air and water systems and also boasts of a customized wireless network. Its green roof and some other innovative features have encouraged the owners to go for the Leed-NC Silver certification from the US Green Building Council. It will add to the appeal of the building and make the address even more prestigious.
