The Life Ball in Vienna holds the title for being the biggest charity even in Europe and one of the biggest in the world. Every year donations are made to support HIV and AIDS patients. An interesting part of the charity for the past thirteen years has been collaborations between Mini, the iconic British car model and one of the top designers of the world. The past collaborators include Dean and Dan Caten of DSQUARED2, Donatella Versace and Renzo Rosoo of Diesel. For this year’s gold themed gala, they have chosen Roberto Cavalli and his creation has already broken the record for being the most expensive Mini ever auctioned off at a Life Ball event.
The car was sold to an anonymous buyer for €150,000 ($194,000). All the money from this AIDS Solidarity gala will go to AIDS related institutions. This special car remains true to the gold theme and has a lot of gilded elements. Another interesting feature is the paintwork that changes from black to brown depending on the angle of the sunlight. To make the Mini Paceman even more special, Roberto Cavalli himself drove the car to the event with his wife Eva Cavalli sitting beside him in the passenger seat. This event came before the parade that took place at Vienna’s City Hall Square.
Mini’s collaboration with the Life Ball is part of their charity principle. This collaboration has helped raise more than half a million dollars in the past decade and hopefully will raise a lot more money in the coming years. By roping in such a big name like Roberto Cavalli, the Life Ball has set a very high standard. It would be interesting to see which designer they get for the coming year. The Blondes had created a cute Mini for Katy Perrya few years back.
