Reshuffle at the Top of London Based Christie’s

Christie’s, the London based auction house is witnessing a reshuffle and change at the top. Edward Dolman had been running the show at Christie’s as its CEO for the last eleven years. On Monday the company announced to its staff that Dolman is being replaced by an outsider Steven Pleshette Murphy. Edward Dolman is being upgraded as the chairman of the company worldwide.

Mr. Murphy, 56, comes with a background in publishing. He was till recently president and chief executive of Rodale Inc., a publishing company perhaps best known for producing hits like “The South Beach Diet’’ and “An Inconvenient Truth.’’ He was also part of the music industry earlier as the President of EMI Music/ Angel Records between 1991 and 1998. Mr. Murphy will move to London and be responsible for the house’s day-to-day operations. “This is about moving the company forward,’’ Mr. Murphy said in a telephone interview, “and building an environment for creative people to excel.’’

Mr. Dolman, as Chairman will be based in New York and will be mainly responsible for attracting new business. He is positive about the change at the top. He sees it as a mixing of the gene pool and will take the company to the next level of growth.
