Rare 1952 Ferrari 340 Up For Auction This Year

A rare Ferrari is set to go under the hammer later this year. The RM Auction event to be held in California later this year will showcase the rare and famous 1952 Ferrari 340. Only three models of this Ferrari were ever built. In fact, the 1952 Ferrari 340 is set to be one of the biggest highlights at the upcoming California auction.  The luxury racing car is no ordinary vehicle. It was built to compete in the Carrea Panamerica Race of 1952. This was one of the most dangerous races ever, but driving the 1952 Ferrari 340 was expert racing car driver Alberto Ascari. Later, it would come to be driven by such stars on the racing circuit as Carroll Shelby and Jack McAfee.

The early years of the 1952 Ferrari 340 may have been spent in the hands of champion racers. But it would continue to perform at the races even years later. The 1952 Ferrari 340 has won many titles and accolades over the years. At the 1988 Ferrari Club of America race, it was adjudged the “Best of the Show”. At the Pebble Beach Concour de Elegance event of 1989, it was named “Best in Class”. More recently, it participated in the Colorado Grand and the Monterey Historics.

Rob Myers, the chairman of RM Auction, describes the 1952 Ferrari 340 as “an important chapter in Ferrari’s early competition history”. Originally, the 1952 Ferrari 340 fetched a sum of $14,500. Estimates for the auction suggest that the sale price of this collectible car could run into millions.
