Porsche Design Expands Aggressively in Travel Retail Space

Porsche Design, the German Luxury brand, in the last one year has expanded its distribution in the travel retail channel. According to its CEO, Dr Juergen Gessler, the travel retail segment has been registering double digit growth. The Porsche Design Group has established a total of thirty travel retail locations at some 23 airports. The brand has recently set up a new store at New York JFK Airport, its first duty free location in the US. Sometime back they had set up a new location at the Cairo Airport ensuring a presence in duty free in all the five continents.

The growth of Porsche Design in travel retail is very strong and above the industry average. They have been growing at over 30% in the year 2011. The better results have been partially because of the new stores they have added during the year. They have been focused on increasing existing retail space. They have added new stores in their home country also at the Duesseldorf and Frankfurt duty free. Their next focus area is mainland China and they are working on opening their first location at Beijing Airport Terminal 3.

They already have a presence at the International Airport in Hong Kong and they are exploring the possibilities at Shanghai as well. Their new stores at Riga and Istanbul have become operational and their store at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport has reopened. Porsche Design Group will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2012 and several special edition launches have been planned. A titanium watch and their first chronograph will be reissued. Special-edition jackets, a pair of shoes, and a luggage collection will also be launched to mark the milestone. The new year will see fashion becoming Porsche Design’s number one product category.
