A new partnership has been inked between luxury hotel chain Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts and Michelin-star chef Pierre Gagnaire. Chef Gagnaire, who already runs 11 Michelin star restaurants around the world, will be adding a 12th to his kitty when the Waldorf Astoria Berlin opens later this year. The 70-cover restaurant has not been given a name yet, but we do know that Gagnaire will be deciding on the concept and the menu. The so-called “Picasso of French Cuisine” has restaurants in Paris, London, St. Tropez, Dubai, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul, Moscow, Courchevel and Las Vegas. The team that will be operating the upcoming restaurant in the Waldorf Astoria Berlin will be trained at Gagnaire’s restaurant in Paris’ Rue Balzac.
The 61-year-old Gagnaire’s fusion food and experimental takes on cuisine has earned him many fans and much respect over the years. The new Berlin restaurant will showcase his unique style of cooking. Gagnaire admitted to looking forward to his new association with Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, a brand that he described as having “become a touchstone for defining luxury experiences”.
Meanwhile, Friedrich W. Niemann, general manager at the upcoming Waldorf Astoria Berlin said that the brand was delighted to have Gagnaire on board. He added, “Waldorf Astoria Berlin and Pierre Gagnaire will combine elegance and gourmet excellence in Berlin”. By entering into this partnership with the luxury hotel brand, Gagnaire will be joining the ranks of top chefs like Gordon Ramsay, Heinz Beck and Simone Zanoni. The 232-room Waldorf Astoria Berlin is part of the Zoofenster project Berlin’s City West area.
