The final frontier and the outer space is not just intriguing but inspires our imagination to become super active. The Forbes Galleries is organizing a unique exhibition that showcases jewelry that connects you to the space age. The exhibition called ‘Out of this World! Jewelry in the Space Age’, will be inaugurated on March 16th later this month. The Forbes Galleries has carefully curated an eclectic collection of fine jewelry that has been sourced from over 100 designers and lenders. The collection on display will range from pieces dating back from the Georgian period to present day contemporary designs.
Commemorative Pieces Created on Lunar Landing Will be Exhibited
The highlight of the exhibition will be Van Cleef & Arpels’ Tampa Necklace. It is a unique piece that features detachable space-themed elements set with diamonds, sapphires, garnets, spinels, and beryls. The renowned French fashion house had also specially created a Lunar Landing Pendant to commemorate the first landing on the moon. The exhibition will give you the opportunity to see the fine piece of jewelry. Cartier had also made an 18 karat gold lunar landing module on the occasion and it will be another highlight of the exhibition. Cartier was commissioned by Italy’s Le Figaro newspaper to create the golden module. Three identical pieces were made to be offered as gifts to the astronauts who flew on the Apollo 11 mission.
The Exhibition Will Run Till September 7, 2013
The other unique item on display will be the watch made for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which indicates the time on Mars. One of the pieces will look familiar as it had appeared in a popular movie. It is the Princess Leia Necklace which was created by Bjorn Weckstrom and was worn by Carrie Fisher in Star Wars Episode IV-A New Hope. There are other unique pieces of fine jewelry with imaginative design including Donald Claflin’s Man in the Moon clip earrings produced for Tiffany & Co which once belonged to Gloria Vanderbilt. The other unique feature of the exhibition will be jewelry crafted out of materials that landed on earth from outer space including tektite, meteorite, pallasite, moldavite, and moissanite. The exhibition will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The exhibition will run through till September 7, 2013.
