Osklen: The Brazilian Global Luxury Brand

Brazilian fashion is a new area that has caught the world by surprise. In fact, Brazilians are buying more fashion than your average Italian or French citizen might in a season. This is attributed to the country’s increasing economic growth and a keen sense in fashion. Osklen, the luxury sportswear company is now being touted as the world’s first Brazilian global luxury brand. It was founded way back in 1989 by orthopaedic physician Oskar Metsavaht. He would be selling a major stake of Osklen to stakeholders.

The interested parties include LVMH, PPR, Marvin Traub Associates and others. South America’s largest shoe company too wants to buy Osklen. The company is known for its $200 and above “Tenis” shoes which are bought by the affluent in Brazil. It looks like this is one of the first steps that Brazilian designers and luxury brands would be making in terms of becoming household names abroad. It would be interesting to see how far this foray into luxury would go, when it comes to Brazilian brands.

Osklen meanwhile is one of the most successful luxury brands in the world, and probably the most successful in Brazil. Only time will tell who will buy the Brazilian brand, and what changes would be made to its product line in Brazil and elsewhere in the world. You could also take a look at the basic rules that luxury brands must follow while engaging consumers on Facebook, which we had written sometime back.
