Oprah Winfrey’s Proposed Australia Tour Triggers Massive Response from Audience

The talk show queen Oprah Winfrey has announced that she would bring a TV audience of 300 people and 150 crew members with her on an eight-day tour of Australia in December. It has triggered a rush of offers from tourism operators across the country. Tropical North Queensland has offered her the use of a luxury yacht and free accommodation. The offers are pouring in to lure her to the region as her show reaches a global audience of millions of people in 145 countries.

It has been confirmed already that the Great Barrier Reef will be the location of one of her shows to be broadcast from Australia. Two other shows are expected to be recorded on the steps of Sydney’s Opera House. There is a massive audience response to be part of that show. The Opera House forecourt area can hold about 3000 people, but the Sydney Morning Herald reported Saturday that 75,000 people – many based overseas – have registered for tickets.

Tourism Australia is coordinating with the producers of the Winfrey show who have recently visited Cairns and Port Douglas scouting for locations. They are also working on ways to maximize the Opera House audience.
