The Titanic tragedy happened exactly 100 years ago and it has brought it back on center stage all over again. The movie about the tragedy had made several generations aware about the tragedy and now people want to connect to the tragic event all over again to commemorate the 100th year of the event. The memorabilia associated with the passengers of the ill fated ship has been in demand and now the whole journey of Titanic is being retraced. There were many people who wanted to feel close to the tragic event by sailing to the spot where the ship sank exactly 100 years ago.
The MS Balmoral sets sail for the Titanic memorial cruise from Southampton, England, Sunday, April 8, 2012. 1,309 of Titanic enthusiasts are on board the ship to relive the experience of the ill fated ship up to the point it sank in the Atlantic. Minus the tragedy itself the 12 day cruise will recreate the journey as closely as possible. The ship will be at the same spot where Titanic sank on April 15th, 1912. The ship has been modified to recreate the atmosphere of 100 years ago but at the same time all modern safety measures have been incorporated.
The passengers on MS Balmoral include family members and descendants of those who lost their lives in the Titanic tragedy. There are hundreds of other passengers on the ship who have come from 28 countries from around the world. But they are all Titanic enthusiasts who have delved into the subject as a historian or an author. There will be two separate memorial services on board on April 14 and 15 to pay tribute to the deceased. The special memorial cruise has not come cheap as the tickets start from $4,445 and go up to $9,520. But this is an exciting cruise that has recreated the ambiance of the original ship.
