Montegrappa Marks Italy’s 150th Anniversary With The Limited Edition ‘Italia’

Italian luxury pen manufacturer Montegrappa is going patriotic this week. At the 8-day Baselworld 2011 conference, Montegrappa unveiled Italia, a new set of limited edition pens to mark Italy’s 150th anniversary. The limited edition writing instruments bear the colors of Italy’s flag – green, white and red – along the body and cap. The bold colors are emphasized by the addition of silver trim. Available in fountain pen and roller ball versions, Montegrappa will be producing on 1,500 of each type. In addition, there will be an even more exclusive version that replaces the silver trim with 18k gold. Only 150 units of the gold version of Italia will be produced.

When in Italy, one can spot buildings dating back to the pre-Christian era. However, for many centuries, Italy was a region of disparate kingdoms. The movement to unify the region began as recently as 1815, when the Resurgence or Il Risorgimento began. The social movement carried on for over four decades before the final unification under King Victor Emmanuel. The date was 17 March 1961.

Montegrappa is known for its limited edition pens that commemorate iconic people and events. In January this year, the pen manufacturer brought out an intricately carved pen, ‘The Dragon‘, to celebrate action star Bruce Lee’s 70th birth anniversary. Then again, Montegrappa is not the only player in this area of commemorative luxury pens. A few days ago, Montblanc revealed their designs for the 20th anniversary Patron of Art Edition dedicated to the ancient Roman patron of the arts, Maecenas.
