Miracle on Ice Medal Auctioned Raked in a Staggering $310,700.

It was in September this year that news of an Olympic hockey gold medal being put up for auction had come out. This Olympic gold medal belonged to Mark Well’s, a defenseman of the United States of America’s 1980’s ‘Miracle on Ice’ team, a team that won against Russia in spite of all odds.

Only 20 ‘Miracle on Ice’ medals are said to exist and this is probably why Phil Castinetti of Sportsworld Inc had opined some two months ago that the medal would fetch about $125,000 when sold. However, the medal for which bidding began at $25,000 was finally auctioned off for a price of $310,700. Heritage Auctions carried out the auctioning of the medal which was bid for by 16 enthusiastic collectors who competed for the medal online and over the telephone. The winner was a rancher from the western United States who owns many collectibles and is very excited about his latest addition.

Mark Well’s had privately sold his medal to a collector in difficult times who later consigned it to Heritage Auctions.
