Mini to Unveil their New Concept Goodwood at Shanghai Motor Show

Mini made an announcement at the Geneva Motor Show that makes you look forward to the Shanghai Motor Show next month. Mini was talking about a new concept they have been working on and they plan to unveil it at Shanghai. They have named the concept Goodwood. It is a hatch back basically but very plush and is being considered a high margin fluff job aimed at the emerging markets that have lot of disposable incomes with increasing number of consumers.

The name Goodwood seems to be homage to the Rolls Royce headquarters at the Goodwood estate. In fact there is a lot of history involved in the Mulliner Park Ward department. It was in 1939 that Park Ward, the coachbuilders, became a wholly owned subsidiary of Rolls Royace/Bentley. H J Mulliner and Company also became a part of the group in 1961. The partnership created many bespoke treatments in house.

Unfortunately the partnership couldn’t continue beyond 1998 when Rolls Royce and Bentley split. Mulliner was clubbed with Bentley as its bespoke group. Park Ward’s last creation was the limited-run Rolls-Royce Park Ward extended-wheelbase model. The new concept is sure to incorporate rich historical elements. It is possible the images might be released before the actual display at the auto show.
