So what, if First Lady, Michelle Obama didn’t carry a Judith Leiber bag to her husband’s inaugural function. The company hasn’t been affected by the Presidential snub and is going international now. It sure should, as its elegance has found a fan in every First Lady since Mamie Eisenhower who started the tradition of carrying a Leiber purse to the important occasion.

Around 30 of Judith Leiber’s claasic and new styles will be on sale cum exhibit at the Celestina boutique in Greenbelt 5, Makati. This exhibit will go on till May 31. The company executives went to Manila upon receiving an invitation from their friends Ricco and Tina Ocampo of Celestina.

Founder and designer of the company, Judith Leiber retired in 1998, selling the company to Jay Schottenstein, known for reviving companies that have gone bust. The company VP for sales, Jodi Rose explained the company’s expansion by saying, “It’s not because of the recession, but as a result of the [change in our] focus. It started with Net-a-porter, which is a highly visible site. And now the economy is coming back, and because of the nature of fashion: crystals are very popular. Our business in Asia is on fire right now.” It will collaborate with local partners in Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur and Seoul.
