There was a lot of buzz around the McLaren SLR Red & Gold Edition in 2009. It was perhaps the most exclusive version of the racing vehicle from Mercedes. It is in the market and available for an asking price of $11 million, making it perhaps the most expensive car. This is a super special model as it boasts of close to 600 pieces of rubies and a substantial amount of 24k gold. This one of a kind car was crafted as a result of 35,000 man hours of hard and skilled labor.
The car was originally made for a Swiss entrepreneur Ueli Anliker who had put forward all the extravagant specifications to the luxury car maker. You will see a lot of golden treatment in the car. The front grille logo, headlight background, alloy wheel rims, rear trunk spoiler and on the inside, gold is seen on the steering wheel, central console, leather seat cover, sun-wizor, dashboard, door skirts, and even the rear trunk carpeting. Even the paint job has close to 5kgs of gold mixed with the red color.
The highlight of the car however is the 600 rubies that have been used for elaborate decorations. The rear view mirror outside has special art work done with small pieces of ruby. The car is not special simply because of its decorations but lot of reengineering has also been done to improve on its performance. The engine in the car is capable of a power output of 700HP and it can attain a top speed of 350 kms per hour. As a precautionary measure a radar sensor has been installed in the car to keep admirers away. A GPS monitor is also fitted in the car to locate it anywhere in the world.
