Hublot’s have been organizing events for charity to give itself a PR push and keep the company active in media. The first event of the series, if one can call that was organized in New York City and involved the players from the UK’s Manchester United team. The next Hublot event was in Moscow and the Star participant was none other than the legendary Argentinean ‘football’ player Diego Maradona.
Maradona is known for his love for Hublot watches and famously wears a watch on each wrist. For the event Maradona had to kick a soccer ball at 10 targets of different sizes. Each target had a dollar value to it and if Maradona hit all 10 targets, Hublot would donate a full $1,000,000 to the Raisa Gorbacheva Memorial Institute for Children Hematology and Transplantation. Maradona was very serious about the event and called it his Russian Challenge.
Maradona aimed for the targets at a distance of 10 meters in front of a public audience. Maradona could ultimately raise a total of $500,000 for the children’s charity, but he did manage to hit the smallest of all targets with the ball – which carried a value of $300,000. Hublot is releasing a 100 pieces limited edition watch to commemorate the event calling it Hublot Maradona Gold & Ceramic watch.
