Faberge eggs are as Russian as it gets. The Russian jeweler is practically an institution in Russia. Their bejeweled eggs are in demand throughout the world. So London will be particularly pleased that luxury brand Faberge has returned after a gap of nearly a century.
The New Faberge Store
Faberge is set to open a store on Grafton Street in Mayfair, London. However, this is by no means Faberge’s first store in the city. Faberge and London have history together. The Russian jeweler, which made a name for itself in the egg-watch business, had stores in the city in the early 20th century. However, the outbreak of the First World War led to the closure of all Faberge London stores by 1915.
There will be excitement among London’s wealthy buyers as Faberge returns to London. However, Grafton Street will not be the only place to receive such a Christmas gift. Harrods and New York will also be on the receiving end of things.
Recent History Of Faberge
During the Bolshevik revolution of 1917, the company became nationalized. In 1951, the founding family of Faberge lost legal rights to use the family name. A legal battle in America found them on the losing end. The tide turned in 2007, when the Faberge family regained their rights. This and other developments may have made possible the move back to London. The company’s managing and creative director Katharina Flohr said, “This is an important moment for us and for Faberge.”
Currently, 50 Imperial Faberge eggs are in existence. At a recent Faberge eggs auction at Christie’s, one such egg fetched $19.5 million.
