Living Artist Sets Auction Record: Jeff Koons’ ‘Hanging Heart’ Sold for $23.6 mn

The long wait for Jeff Koons ‘Hanging Heart’ auction has come to an end when it got sold for $23.6 million on 14 November. This stainless steel heart hanging sculpture has become the most luxurious piece by a living artist ever auctioned. This lately happened auction set a record for the living artist by beating the earlier record of Damien Hirst’s “Lullaby Spring,” which sold for $19.5 million at Sotheby’s in London in June.

The 9 feet tall Koons Hanging Heart was installed at the Gagosian Gallery, which had also collected his “Diamond (Blue)” sculpture for $11.8 million at a Christie’s auction. A private American collector offered this sculpture for sale with an anticipated sale of $15-$20 million. But finally it fetched $23.6 mn (includes Sotheby’s commission).
