Lisin is Russia’s New Richest Man, Beats Prokhorov

It’s a steel baron who now tops Russia’s Rich List. Mechanic turned Steel Magnate Vladimir Lisin has beaten Mikhail Prokhorove to become Russia’s richest man with a fortune of $ 18.8 billion. The annual ranking was released by Russian magazine Finans showing that Prokhorov has slipped into second place while Roman Abramovich stands third.

Russia has been recovering from the steepest of economic declines since its turning a democracy.
Apparently, the three rich men did rich enough last year. Fifty-three year old Lisin doubled his wealth from a year before to overtake Prokhorov. Prokhorov’s fortune on the other hand grew by 27 percent to $17.85 billion.
Abramovich, saw a rise in his own wealth of $17 billion, by 22 percent.

Lisin has been known to be slightly secretive, a keen hunter and a connoisseur of Cuban cigars. Lisin owns a 16th century castle in the Scottish Highlands with 13 bedrooms on 3,300 acres, a haven for grouse shooting, deer stalking and game fishing. The magazine said besides listing the rich, that the number of Russians worth at least $ 1 billion jumped to 77 from 49. It also notes that the combined wealth of 10 richest Russians jumped 84 per cent to $139.3 billion.
