The Waterwood Estate in Ohio, owned by the late Don Brown, the inventor of drop ceiling is truly a unique property. The special thing about it is that in terms of extravagance it is definitely jaw dropping, but it never seems to be too over the top. Listed in the market for $19.5 million, this property is spread across 160 acres, with a living space of 60,000 square feet and has three-quarter miles of frontage on Lake Erie. The property came in the market when Mr. and Mrs. Brown passed away last year in a plane crash. Several prospective buyers have expressed interest but more bids are expected to come in.
The house consists of 20 castle-like concrete buildings that are connected by glass corridors, with each structure topped with a slate pyramid. Â Hugh Newell Jacobsen, the great American architect worked on this project though he could not see it through the completion. The house has 5 bars, a helicopter pad and even a barbershop! Lots of sand from the Lake was taken to create a beach and a harbor.
The design of the house and its execution clearly reflect the genius of the owner and his architect. Randal Darwin, vice president of CB Richard Ellis believes that this house was way ahead of its time n terms of systems and functionality. Don Brown truly managed to build his dream house.
