Jimmy Choo has came a long way since its inception in 1996. The valuation of the company today as per the experts is already close to half a billion British Pounds and it is quite possible, if the trend continues, the valuation might get pretty close to the one billion Pounds mark. The owners of Jimmy Choo have been consulting investment banks about “strategic options†and could be on the verge of selling the business for 500 million British Pounds.
Some unnamed reliable sources in the company indicated that the shareholders may appoint an adviser by the end of the summer to work out a strategic review. Selling the brand now is just one of the options. They might hold on to the business for a few years more as the projected growth in the valuation of the company is very bright.
Jimmy Choo, a Malaysian born cobbler working in East London met Tamara Mellon, the Accessories Editor at Vogue and some shoes for him. He would make 20 pairs of shoes for him every week and lent them to the magazine in return for credit. The partnership was formalized in 1996 when Tamara took a loan of 150,000 Pounds from her father Tommy Yeardye and soon after the launch Jimmy Choo became a popular name in fashionable circles.
