Celtic legend Jimmy Johnstone and Manchester United’s George Best are two players who have been captured inside as silver and gold figures in the faberge eggs that have been decorated with jewels. These faberge eggs have been now put up for auction and they could get up to £15,000 and £20,000 each for these eggs.
These eggs are owned by David and Pauline McGinty life-long Celtic fans and they were specially created by professional goldsmiths in 2005. Although Mr. and Mrs. McGinty loved having the egg they are selling it in order to set themselves up in Shetland, while they also intend to give away some funds to help youngsters. These Faberge eggs are a collector’s delight, and have a great history behind them, and the funds would definitely be used for the right purposes. Hence, although they are precious, auctioning them is useful.
Mr. Brian Clements, who is a managing director at McTear’s Auctioneers, said: “Faberge eggs are one of the world’s great jewellery items and these are impressive examples of the famous goldsmith’s work, and anyone who has a connection with Celtic or Manchester United will know the story behind the eggs and I have no doubt this will help to increase interest in the sale at McTear’s in March.”
