By now, stating that, luxury is quintessential for the rich and the affluent can be easily considered as an understatement with the availability of a plethora of luxury products and services designed for the uber rich. When it comes to eatables, luxury products are all the more enticing, such as the likes of the world’s most expensive black tea, that is said to carry a price tag of $600 per kg. Grown in the world renowned tea gardens of Glendale Tea estate in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, this one of a kind black tea is said to be a unique flavor from India and is even expected to be included in the highly prestigious Guinness Book of World Records. The most expensive Black Tea is made from exclusive Super-Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe (SFTGFOP) and the concoction made its debut at the coveted World Tea Expo in Las Vegas last year.
However, this remarkable black tea variety hasn’t been without its own share of controversy. Vinod Shenai, who serves as the group manager for Glendale estates has stated that, the company had sent a letter to the Guinness committee for the categorization of the world’s most expensive black tea, but was rejected by the record organization. As per the reply, Guinness had argued that the title of the world’s most expensive tea has already been relegated to a rare Chinese green tea called Tieguanyin, which is known to carry a price tag of a staggering $3,000 a kg. However, Glendale estates has stated that their particular blend of tea is ‘black tea’, while the Chinese variant is a ‘green tea’.
