When speaking of heritage auctions, we have seen plenty of memorabilia related to Hollywood and musicians going under the hammer. We have seen Steve McQueen’s Husqvarna 400 CR motorcycle being auctioned among Bonhams Exceptional Motorcycles. We have also seen Jimi Hendrix’s favorite guitar going up for sale at the Bonhams Entertainment Memorabilia auction. If you are a sports nut who is always on the lookout for sports memorabilia, an upcoming heritage auction on 21 and 22 April 2011 should be right up your alley. There are 250 items going up on sale at Heritage Auctions’ Signature Sports Collectible Auction. Among the star attractions here are a Hank Aaron jersey, a season game bat that was used by Ted Williams and a 1959 Topps Baseball Card Set.
Heritage auctions don’t always cater to sports fans, but this one is all about the sports circuit. And these are collectibles that serious sports fanatics cannot let go of. But of course, these will come at a price. Hank Aaron’s Milwaukee Braves’ jersey is estimated to sell at over $200,000. The 44 number jersey bears the tomahawk icons of the Milwaukee Braves. Plus, this is an autographed piece, with the words “Best Wishes, Hank Aaron” scrawled across.
Meanwhile, the value of Ted Williams’ 1947 Triple Crown season game bat is estimated at over $75,000. The bat comes with a letter of examination from expert John Taube who has certified the bat as exhibiting “excellent use”. Yet, there are no cracks on this much-used season bat. The knob bears Williams’ number 9 in black paint. The sale should also include photos of Williams in action swinging the bat.
Also, the above-mentioned Topps Baseball Complete Set from 1959 is extremely rare. You will find all 572 original cards, and it is all in great condition. There are over 210 mint 9 cards in this set, which is sure to be a big hit among serious collectors of baseball cards. But be prepared to shell out over $50,000 for this set.
However, Heritage Auctions’ sports auction is not limited to baseball memorabilia. If you are an avid follower of the Olympic Games, and of swimming in particular, watch out for the auction of the swim cap that swimmer Michael Phelps wore on his way to his eight Olympic gold. Included in the sale is a letter from the Olympic gold medalist attesting that he did wear the cap en route to his medal. But there is more on this front. You will find memorabilia from the fields of hockey, football, basketball, and even golf.
You can get all of this at the Dallas, TX auction. But again, there is no need to make a last-minute rush for flight tickets to Dallas.
