Gucci was founded by Guccio Gucci in Florence in 1921 and so the group is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. One of the special anniversary creations is the new Coupé timepieces. The design almost takes you by surprise. These special limited edition luxury watches feature a retro styled case. The dial and the strap have been designed to match the same style. The movement is a standard automatic one they use in their other watches. The Italian fashion and leather goods label which is part of the Gucci Group is now owned by French company PPR.
The dial of the new Coupé timepieces bears the Gucci diamond pattern and both the strap and crown are signed “G”. Brushed stainless steel has been used to make the case. The 40mm case houses a Swiss made automatic movement which is most likely the ETA which are the most respectable amongst the Swiss movements and a Gucci favorite. Gucci first acquired a watch licensee, Severin-Montres in 1997 and renamed it Gucci Timepieces. It had the most successful of starts as the very next year in 1998 the European Business Press Federation declared it the European Company of the Year.
“G.Gucci 1921” is printed on the dial of these special edition anniversary watches to honor the founder. The limited edition pieces are being produced in two color combinations. The black dial comes with black strap and the cream dial watches come with a brown strap. The special edition watches have been priced at $2,650. Guccio Gucci , the founder of the house, perhaps never visualized that going forward the house he established will one day create such beautiful timepieces.
