Gilt Taste Is The New Online Haunt For Gourmet Foodies

Gilt Groupe, which has been selling luxury clothing and travel deals online, is now going beyond apparel and travel. The company has launched Gilt Taste, a site catering to the gourmet foodie. The site specializes in artisanal foods that are difficult to source. Some of the items are sold on the site are highly exclusive and sold solely to chefs. However, the site will not cater to online retail alone; it will offer editorial content as well. Overseeing this content will be former Gourmet magazine editor Ruth Reichl who is Gilt Taste’s editorial advisor. She will be in charge of the content, whether essays, articles or recipes and curating the food selections as well.

Of course, given that the site deals in artisanal foods, the prices are by no means reasonable. So if you are buying steak, you could be shelling out anywhere between $30 and $200 for a pound. If you are not rolling in money, you might want to wait it out for their flash sales. Among the gourmet foods on offer are caviar, charcuterie, high-end vinegars, West Coast oysters and Afghan mezze. Gilt Taste will be exclusively offering Murray’s Cheese as well.

This website is unlikely to end up as your weekly haunt, but it makes cooking up the occasional gourmet storm so much more convenient. That said, Gilt Taste looks set to launch an iPad app. This should come with motion-activated technology to ensure that users can browse through featured recipes without drenching or greasing their iPads while cooking.  We will certainly be looking forward to this one.
