French Luxury Brand Hermès Comes to Mumbai

Hermès has finally arrived in India, much in line with the visit of Pakistani foreign minister Hina Rabbani Rabbani Khar who was seen with a Hermès Birkin bag. What could been better product placement for this luxury brand.  This is third store from this French company in India and its located in the Horniman Circle of Mumbai. The other two stores are located in Pune and Delhi but the Mumbai one is the first to be opened directly in the Indian streets. The ones that are there in Pune and Delhi are seated in the luxury hotels Ista and The Oberoi, respectively.

The Mumbai outlet resides in the grand two-storey building and it has been designed by Parisian architecture agency Rena Dumas Architecture Interieure (RDAI). The outlet has one of its sides overlooking the Asiatic Society library, which has been around since 1804. Even though Horniman Circle doesn’t exactly match up with the grandeur of New York’s Fifth Avenue or London’s Bond Street, but still is one of the prime estates in the financial hub of the country.

The outlet is spread across two floors and features a series of large connecting rooms. Their collection includes scarves, jackets, jewelry and of course, the brand’s enviable bags. The imposing stone staircase is much of an attraction and it coils around a transparent glass elevator, links the two levels and is done up with steel railings and glass balustrades. Hermès India has officially let out a word which speaks of its plans to support the Asiatic Society of Mumbai by donating some of the proceeds of the sales of an exclusive edition of the silk scarf “La Danse du Cheval Marwari” (Marwari horse dance).
