College teaches the intricate details of global warming and reducing your carbon footprint but very rarely does it implement its own teachings. Waingels College in Woodley, Wokingham, U.K. intends to do everything it can for the environment while helping mould the minds of youngsters.
Developer Willmott Dixon intends to renew more than just the look of the Waingels College. The project will be undertaken by Sheppard Robinson and will involve the replacement of the existing college with a laminated timber structure that would reduce its carbon emission by 60%. This system of building is also more cost-effective apart from being eco-friendly and creates minimal waste. The layout of the college is divided into four central areas holding the assembly and dining halls, an Open Heart space, individual learning communities, and teaching spaces.
Gloomy and enclosed spaces will be transformed into open areas with natural light and ventilation throughout the school. The college which opens in October of 2011 will accommodate 1,500 pupils and 172 teaching staff.
