Döttling Recreates the Barcelona Chair Magic with its Liberty Barcelona Safe

Döttling, the German safe manufacturing company has been in business for over 90 years now. They have persisted with their traditional craft and continue to handcraft exclusive safes for elite clients. Their locksmith’s techniques have been inherited from the Royal Prussian smiths. They have designed a new safe which is scheduled for a limited run of 29 pieces. The safe with the new design and finish has been named ‘Liberty Barcelona’ and its design has been inspired by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s iconic Barcelona Chair. And the reason behind limiting the production to 29 pieces is that the Barcelona Chair was made in the year 1929. The chair was designed by the German American architect for seating the Spanish royal couple at the German pavilion of the World’s Fair in Barcelona held in 1929. The royal couple had graced the event of the building’s opening ceremony.

The chair that had a very modern design for its time was made basically from stainless steel and leather. Döttling has used the same materials for their new safe. All the fittings have been crafted out of high-gloss polished stainless steel. Leaving the front free, the body of the safe has been covered with fine calfskin. The covering has the same pattern of stitching that you find in the iconic chair. The safe guarantees safety for articles stored in the safe because of its state-of-the-art electronic lock.

The interiors of the safe have been designed to hold 12 precision watch winders and three drawers. There are ten watch cushions built on one of the drawers. You have options available in terms of several interior fittings and colors and you can request for the same.

The Liberty Barcelona measures 100 cm x 63 cm x 53 cm (H x W X D) and will be available in the German and European insurance classes VdS/EN 1 to VdS/EN 3. In case your requirement of safety is very high then the safe can be produced with up to class five safety standards. Since all safes are rather heavy Liberty Barcelona is no exception. The minimum weight of the safe is 300 kg. It will increase if your requirement of safety standard is higher.

Döttling has once again proved that they are one of the best in their craft. They have also dine a wonderful job of restoring some of the antique safes. There recent models The Bell-Air and The Chameleon have also been highly appreciated for their quality, dependability and design.
