Daphne Guinness, Shaun Leane Create A Diamond-Encrusted Glove

Daphne Guinness is known for her signature style. Her collection of couture garments turn heads every time. The fashion icon and Guinness heir who also dabbles in modeling, acting, filmmaking, film production, designing and writing has teamed up with jewelry designer Shaun Leane to create a diamond-encrusted glove. Leane happens to be Guinness’ good friend. The duo has collaborated to create a stunning piece of armored jewelry. Apparently, Guinness has been fascinated by and interested in the concept of armor for a few years now. Thus, the bejeweled glove by Guinness and Leane is a fine example of the former’s signature fashion sense and the latter’s incredible craftsmanship and expertise in creating artistic pieces of jewelry. Named “Contra Mundum”, a Latin phrase meaning “against the world”, this 18-carat armor is a striking work of art.

Apparently, Guinness decided to design stylish armor for herself during a night out with Leane and Alexander McQueen. Within two or three weeks, Guinness had taken that kernel of an idea a step forward by having a cast made of her hand. It took four long years and several fitting sessions to complete the glove. The initial plan was to build it out of silver. But the metal was not hard enough. It was abandoned in favor of white gold.

Slowly, the piece came to fit her entire arm. The glove is created entirely out of hand-crafted chain mail. Over 5,000 diamonds have been used to create bird images all over the armor. It may have started as a piece of bespoke jewelry tailor-made for Guinness. However, in time it acquired the stature of a collaborated work. The diamond-encrusted glove will soon be making its runway debut before going up on sale.
