Citywest Hotel placed into receivership by Bank of Scotland

The posh Citywest Hotel of Jim Mansfield in Saggart has gone into the receivership of Bank of Scotland (Ireland). Martin Ferris of Ferris Associate was appointed by the bank as a receiver to the HSS that trades as the Hotel, Conference Centre, Leisure and Golf Resort. The massive hotel boasts of 1,712 bedrooms, two golf courses, two conference centres and also a helipad!

But the property has seen a lot of controversy in the recent past due to Mr Mansfield’s constant fights with the planning authorities over expansion plans. Dalata Ltd, a hotel group has been appointed to run the hotel and its adjoining facilities. The company also got hired to run the Portlaoise and Killenard Heritage hotels in Laois. The Citywest Hotel’s 400 staff will retain their jobs. The Citywest Hotel was built from scratch by Mr Mansfield in the past decade, taking its reputation to such a level that it has become the regular host for GAA functions. It also exhibited the recovered artefacts from the Titanic.

Though rumours regarding the financial difficulties facing Mr. Mansfield have come up, but the man has rubbished them repeatedly. At the end of last month, he even told the press that he was in talks with a US firm to sell off the Citywest property for a whopping €1 billion! We will see how that plan works out.
