China Officially Runs The Fastest Rail Link In The World

The fastest rail link in the world was launched on Saturday. This one connects the modern cities of Guangzhou and Wuhan in China at the speed of 350 kilometers an hour. This translates into the amazing fact – the 1,069 kilometers journey gets reduced to only three hours. The total travel time gets reduced by more than seven and a half hours.

The project began in 2005 with the aim of expanding the high-speed network between Guangzhou and Beijing. And now the big dream has become a reality. In fact, test runs have already begun. December saw the link officially going into service. Till now, Japan held was one of the few countries with the fastest train average speed of 243 kilometers per hour while France holds 277 kilometers per hour.

Beijing has been quite ambitious with the rail development program. The authorities are very keen on increasing the national network from the present 86,000 kilometers to 120,000 kilometers. This would make it the most extensive rail system outside the United States of America. If you recall, China unveiled its first high-speed line at the time of the Beijing Olympics last year as a service linking the capital with the port city of Tianjin.
