China National Grand Theater Sets for Trial Performance

It took almost five-years for the final completion of the China’s National Grand Theater. Now the theater has started offering trial performance from 25 September, welcoming its constructors and inhabitants to be its first honored guests. The USP of this much talked-about masterpiece is its elliptical form. The mastermind behind this enterprising and novel creation is a French architect Paul Andreu. Positioned in the centre of the capital, the innovative theater evolves like an island amidst the lake.

The theater flaunts three colossal halls – a 2,416-seat opera house, a 2,017-seat concert hall and a 1,040-seat theater. The huge “bubble”, coated with 20,000 titanium panels and 1200 laminated glass panels is anticipated to be honored as the China’s top arts performance centre. Around 23 tests including ballets, operas and dramas are scheduled to happen on this new facility from 25 September-13 October. Among the highlight is the play “Teahouse” and the opera “Peony Pavilion” that is not disclosed to the public. A general fine tuning will follow the testing. The first public concert in the theater is planned at the year-end.

The very entry into the theater is enthralling as you will be crossing the 80-meter tunnel, engulfed by the flickering water adding beauty to the translucent roof. The golden-hued opera house can accommodate 2,000 spectators. The sound quality of one corner of the theater is competitive to the other.
