Arcade gaming can never go out of fashion. No matter what kind of high-engineered video games and consoles surface, there is no joy parallel to that of actually spending hours on a full-blown arcade machine. Atari thinks too and is trying to find a middle way between modern-day gadgets and the good old joystick. The output of their efforts resulted into this Atari Arcade Duo Powered Joystick. The device is made to work the iPad app and an iPad ofcourse and will instantly convert your pretty Apple tablet into your very own miniature arcade machine.
The Atari iPad app features as much as 100 classic Atari and arcade games. Critics are saying that this one doesn’t seem all that great when compared to the company’s previously unveiled iCade. Here the iPad simply settles in the dedicated slot whereas iCade used Bluetooth for the syncing functions. The controller section of this joystick has a simple pattern and features four buttons and a joystick. Other details are pretty scarce at the moment. As far as pricing is concerned, Atari has priced these at $60 a pop. Sources suggest that it will arrive on shelves of retailers like Target and Toys “R†Us.
We earlier spoke of the Golden Atari 2600 that was made to pay a tribute to the company’s contribution to the gaming world. The controllers were plated but the ports were not suggested that unit might be operational even with the bling casing. The controllers might be a little less flexible because of the plating but might be good for a game.
