The Gastaad Palace has Survived a Turbulent Century

The Gastaad Palace hotel was originally built in 1913 and has gone through tough periods during the two world wars and the depression. The hotel has been refurbished and modernized over time. Several important additions, including an indoor pool and four clay courts for tennis has been made over the years. Roy Emerson who has won 12 Grand Slam singles titles and 16 Grand Slam men’s doubles titles is the only player in men’s tennis to have won a singles and doubles title at all the four major events. Emerson is a fan of the Gastaad palace and his association with the hotel goes back to 1974 when he first held his camp there.

The service at the hotel is the best the Swiss have to offer. But if you choose to participate in the tennis camp you get 25 hours of tennis instruction on the Palace’s four clay courts. It is a wonderful experience as the courts offer panoramic views of the Bernese Alps. Emerson is supported by a team of professional instructors including his son Anthony Emerson. The guests are divided into groups of advanced, intermediate or advanced-beginner levels. One professional instructor works with a group of three to four guests and guides them to improve their technique and skill. The guests are also entitled to a 25-minute sports massage at the spa. The access to the indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, gym and steam bath has no limits. The package costs $4,255 per person.
