Al Capone’s Cadillac Listed for $1 Million

The 1928 bullet-proof Cadillac owned by an infamous gangster Al Capone could be yours for $1 million. Celebrity Cars, one of the dealerships in Las Vegas is selling the armored car of a renowned gangster in Chicago, maybe the most well-known in American history.

Nearly 100 years after the infamous mob boss got sent to prison in 1932, Al Capone still raises pulses and eyebrows for its current selling price, as his former vehicle has been listed with a seven-figure price tag. The vehicle, claims by Celebrity Cars is not only a silent witness to his crime and the bloodiest era in American history of organized crime, but it also the representation of the development of modern bulletproof cars.

Al Capone’s Cadillac was armed with inch-thick bulletproof glass windows that could be raised an extra inch to accommodate a muzzle of a machine gun, and armored asbestos plating, claims to be about 3,000 pounds. But of course, the car no longer features the asbestos wrapped steel plating. Apart from the bulletproof windows, the sedan back windows could be opened for the occupants to fire back on any pursuer. When it comes to the under the hood, you won’t be disappointed as the sedan’s Series 341-A. 90 bhp, 341 cubics. In. L-head V8 engine, along with full-floating rear axle, four-speed manual transmission, mechanical drum brakes, and semi-elliptical leaf springs are all still in excellent running condition.

The classic sedan is also slick-looking, it sports black bumpers and fenders with lots of chrome accents, and covered with black paint and two-tone hunter green scheme. The car logged 1,111 miles and there is no major restoration job on the car since it was acquired from its first owner. Take note, the car passed through the hands of carnival owners, collectors, and dance hall operators since then. However, the ownership history is well-documented in the car’s paperwork.

RM Sotheby’s sold the armored car for $355,000 in 2012. The Celebrity Cars, the dealership is presently selling it at $1 million. They also require a $20,000 deposit before they negotiate the price.
