A wine gets better with age and now it seems more expensive as well. $98,591 is the price tag of a case of 1961 Hermitage “La Chapelle,†which contained 6 bottles of the delectable wine. The French wine was auctioned at Christie’s spring auction of luxury goods, which took place in Geneva.
This case was sold for a record breaking price, and we are not surprised, as the wine is considered by connoiseurs all over to be rare and iconic. The wine is made with syrah that comes from France’s Rhone Valley and was kept in the cellars of the Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné.
The new owner of this rare fluid is an anonymous Asian buyer. This is another example in the growing strength of high-end Asian customers in the luxury market. Constellation Brands Inc. Has become the world’s biggest wine maker due to it’s numerous acquisitions two years back. Wall Street Journal reports that the company is now consolidating divisions and cutting unprofitable brands.
Asia is slowly becoming an important wine producer as well. Kenzo Tsujimoto is an example. His Kenzo Estate in Napa Valley will make wines at different price levels, including Rindo, which is priced at $75.
