50 Cases of Best Bordeaux Wine Fetches $320,000 at Skinner’s

The growing consumption of wine has made it a precious commodity. The processing and ageing of the wine has taken to another level of refinement where it has become an investment because the valuations are bound to increase. A recent example was witnessed at the Skinner’s wine sale on November 2. One bidder at the sale basically bought a wine cellar’s worth of wine in one swoop of the auction paddle.

It was the Bordeaux wine super lot that fetched much more than the pre sale estimates. The lot comprised of a total of 50 cases of wine. The lot included 10 cases of Chateau Haut Brion 1995-2004; 10 cases Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1995-2004; 10 cases of Chateau Latour 1995-2004; 10 cases of Chateau Margaux 1995-2004 and 10 cases of Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1995-2004.

The first growth Bordeaux are like the blue chip of the wine world. You can depend on them and the return on investment is always above average. The pre sale estimate for the lot was $200,000 to $300,000. The winning bid for the lot was $320,000. Even at that price it is a good investment if you want to fill a wine cellar very quickly with some of the most famous brands.
