$1.4 Million Is The Price For This Green Home Within A Sand Dune

When it comes to green homes, few residences can compare to the striking appearance of the Dune House in Florida’s Atlantic Beach area. Of course, over the years, we have spotted several eco-friendly homes with unique, eye-catching designs. The energy efficient prefab home of Blu Balance is a case in point, as is the solar-powered green home in Hawaii, which stands in Honolulu’s Diamond Head State Monument. These boast of brilliant architecture, but how can they even compare to a luxury home that was built within a sand dune?

Architect William Morgan built the green-roofed Dune House back in 1975. The story goes that Morgan wanted to develop the natural dune that was formed after Hurricane Dora in 1964, but did not want to build over the dune since he did not want to lose the view. He did the next best thing. He built a home inside the dune. Originally planned as a rental property, this green home in Florida later became Morgan’s home. Over the years, it has garnered a lot of attention from prestigious architectural magazines. Even Playboy featured the home. Now, the property has been placed on the market. The price is a cool $1.4 million.

The price may put this green-roofed wonder out of the reach of most, but that should not stop anyone from admiring this two-apartment space. The two apartments are almost identical. At street level, each houses a sleeping loft that looks onto the living area. Head downstairs and you will find yourself in a cozy living room that offers a brilliant view of the ocean. The price tag certainly seems warranted.
