Karl Lagerfield, the eccentric but adorable Chanel mentor is known for many eccentricities. I remember once he had boarded a flight with more than a dozen Louis Vuitton suitcases and the attendants had a tough time carrying his luggage. Moreover, his sense of fashion is something that I truly admire, and is very European in nature.
Dark, colourless, chic, and noir, his designs are mostly black, grey, steel or blue. It suits the grey winters of Paris, and the refusal to use bright colours as that is only something that preppy brats from the U.S. would wear. He is also known for his obsession with writing instruments. This time around, his latest obsessions are the ‘Prestige’ and ‘Chic’ by St Dupont. ‘Prestige’ & ‘Chic’ limited edition pens come in black and red and they look pretty chic. It also has a lot of yellow gold which makes me wonder why Karl likes it.
If I thought I knew the grand old man, he hates the yellow metal. It is not clear how much his latest indulgences cost but I hope he gets back to making those important sketches that we all would need to wear great Chanel clothes. I hope his next collection would be well sketched by him, and that he would NOT use these pens for I am sure most expensive pens don’t really work that great. Of course, I am trying to be funny, but unfortunately I can’t. Meanwhile, go ahead and get yourself a Chanel No. 5.
