The Dutch hotel chain CitizenM can boast of having the trendiest hotel in its kitty. The company’s hotel in Amsterdam was voted the trendiest by TripAdvisor users. CitizenM has another hotel coming up in Glasgow, and has already gotten the approval for building another one in the Southwark Street end of Lavington Street. The cost of the hotel is supposed to be £4.5 million, and will be built over Workspace Group’s Surrey House.
This new hotel will be a six storey building and will have unique external panels designed by Sheppard Robson, that will be used to change the different artworks. The controversy that has come up with this property is that only 60 jobs will be created in this 3000 square metres of employment space. Planning officer Yvonne Lewis said that although she was recommending for a grant of approval for this hotel, but a refusal also would be sound and rational.
CitizenM’s Menno Hilberts said that the rooms will be “almost like a luxury yacht crammed into a small area”. Cllr Robin Crookshank Hilton on the other hand called the hotel design “incongruousâ€, and believes that soon there will be a saturation of hotels in the Bankside area.
